RUBY NILSSON
In ЯƎSPAWN, Nilsson employs another female actor to perform as her, lipsyncing to her voice while wearing silicone cast of Nilsson’s face. Following a logic of invasion, the artist unfolds her own embodiment as a form of viral intrusion, taking over another performer and abusing it as a “host-body”.
The work is a blasphemy against the worldview shaped by bioessentialist and trans-exclusionary radical feminist (TERF) theory. With the backdrop of an ongoing persecution campaign, propagated by TERF:s who firmly believe in “gender terrorism” (like “radical gender ideology”) and “Elite Gender Inversion” (EGI), the performance embodies a central historical figure in the philosophical emergence of these theories. This figure is the “necrophilic invader.”
